What we offer

We provide a broad range of clinical services, tailored to your specific needs

Child Therapy (age range 0-12)

We offer therapeutic interventions for a wide variety of clinical issues including, but not limited to, anxiety, mood issues, emotion regulation, anger, self-esteem, psychological difficulties in the context of autism or ADHD, toileting, sleep, feeding, school refusal and adjustment to family transitions (eg birth of sibling, separations, bereavement). Child sessions are offered in person from Johanna’s clinic in Dublin 3. Parent-only sessions can also be offered online where convenient.

Therapy is always preceded by an initial assessment of suitability and needs. Onward referral may be advised in the case of complexity. When working with younger children, we often deliver interventions via or in conjunction with parent. We know from experience that younger children benefit hugely from interventions guided by us in the home. Our service is family-based and we value the importance of supporting parental wellbeing in parallel with our child work.

Unfortunately, we are not in a position to provide support to adolescents currently. We do not offer support in the context of moderate-severe or complex mental health difficulties (eg self-harm, suicidality, eating disorders, psychosis).

We do not offer medico-legal work or court reports.

If you are unsure if your child’s needs fit with the above, please contact us at hello@cradlepsychology.com to discuss.

Assessment

We now offer clinical assessment in relation to learning, developmental, and social/emotional needs. We provide formal assessment of cognitive and psychoeducational abilities, which may be helpful where there are concerns about a child’s learning or academic ability.

Assessment of social/emotional needs typically include an initial screening appointment, completion of psychological measures by parents and teachers, and observation of the child in school or at home, followed by feedback and report.

Learning/psychoeducation assessments typically include an interview with parents/caregivers, formal learning/psychoeducational assessment, review of previous reports, completion of measures by parents and teachers (where appropriate), and detailed feedback including a formal report with recommendations.

Where appropriate we will also offer screening for neurodevelopmental differences including ADHD and autism. This includes observational and psychometric screening for attention/concentration difficulties. At the moment we do not provide diagnostic autism assessments, but do offer interventions.

Please note that the above may vary depending on the individual needs of the child and family. We will always be guided clinically by individual needs and aims and will discuss the most appropriate format of assessment with families during the initial consult.

Psychological Therapy for Parents

We provide one to one psychological therapy for those on a parenting journey of any kind. Therapy is delivered by a chartered senior clinical psychologist, qualified to doctoral level and with experience working with adults and children with a range of emotional and mental health challenges.

Clients often attend therapy with us to explore and seek support around issues associated with the adjustment to parenthood, parenting anxiety, changing identity, emotional regulation, and the return to work after maternity leave. We work with both mums and dads, and we aim to support parents at all different stages of their journey – whether you are in the process of your fertility journey or you have just become an empty-nester. We employ psychological models and approaches which aim to ease emotional distress, increase self-compassion, and help people to move towards a meaningful and fulfilling life.

Our approach to psychological therapy is one that prioritises flexibility, knowing the very individualised demands of family life. We decide together how therapy will best work for you. Therapy is typically offered online however in-person options are possible depending on location.

There are some difficulties that we might not be able to help with and that might benefit from a specialist team-based service, such as suicidality, self-harm, eating disorders, and psychosis. We do not provide couples’ counselling, however we will sometimes include partners or other family members in our work where this is agreed upon, appropriate, and beneficial to the therapy.
